Ride along in a PA-28 as we underestimate a tricky departure from the cross wind runway, on a busy day
Watch in HD!

Here’s the LINK to the video from a previous flight the season before where we landed on the short runway in Guelph,
and why we wanted to avoid doing it again 😛

We’re Flying a PA-28 on a short cross country and we want to land at the longer runway at our destination which will have a cross wind, so that’s why we wanted to feel it out at home base before committing.

In retrospect, it may not have been the best plan based on how busy the wind favoured runway traffic got; we nearly had a conflict / runway incursion – it is interesting to see how it happens.

I was not on top of my game that day due to having recently recovered from being sick, and some personal distractions, so I had failed the “IMSAFE” check list…
Thus, I made the correct call not to log any PIC; and I was little help to my pilot buddy Mehran, as I was clearly unfocussed.
So this is a great example of applying the IMSAFE check list.

Flight Fitness – The “I’m Safe” Checklist:

M: Medication – Have I been taking prescription or over-the-counter drugs?

S: Stress – Am I under psychological pressure from the job? Worried about personal issues?

A: Alcohol – Have I been drinking within eight hours? Within 24 hours?

F: Fatigue – Am I tired and not adequately rested?

E: Eating – Am I adequately nourished?

DISCLAIMER: I am a “weekend warrior” private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial.I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience – I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve…. Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share.Feed back is invited; however, please keep it positive.
